Lime scale deposits on shower walls, tiles and fittings are not only unsightly, but also shorten their service life. Soft BWT ‘pearl’ water can prevent this and help maintain the value of your bathroom. The build-up of lime scale also affects the pipe work and the entire water system, with dramatic and very expensive consequences. The only recommended way to deal with hard water is to install the DVGW-certified soft water system AQA Perla!

Highly efficient technology for greater comfort
Like all BWT soft water systems, AQA is also based on the classic ion exchange process – including many technological features such as precision salination, ‘smart’ metering or the multi-info touch screen for maximum user-friendliness.
AQA perla uses the unique alternating operating mode for duplex soft water systems that monitors volume and hygiene levels.



BWT optimizes the adapted operating mode to significantly shorten the operating time of the softening columns, which essentially means that each column is managed by microprocessors and activated separately at shorter intervals.

Any excessively hard water will therefore flow alternately over both columns.
The minimal operating time, using the short-time operating mode, ensures maximum hygiene safety. Once the pre-set residual capacity has been reached, the first column takes over the operation while the second column switches into regeneration mode. This means that the water never remains in any one column for very long, but is constantly moving and remains incredibly fresh.

Very informative and extremely easy to use
The AQA perla soft water system’s mode of operation is the lowest consumer of resources, with its combination of intelligent brine extraction (precision salination) and pressure-regulated regeneration patterns.

When AQA perla is switched on, a self-test is automatically performed on all the relevant system functions. In addition, a hygienic rinse can be programmed to take place after a long period of inactivity, similar to the backwash filter and filter replacement reminders.

The domestic water supply is checked for slow running, e.g. when caused by a fault in the domestic plumbing system using the Aqua-Watch facility and a warning is issued in the event of failure or an unusual water consumption pattern.

A graphic touch panel also simplifies the operation to enable users to consult all the important system parameters. For example, the flow volume is displayed in l/h while the system is operating and the residual capacity in litters, which can also be shown as bar charts. The graphics can also offer the installer an easy way of displaying his individual contact data, e.g. phone numbers, on the screen as permanent still image.


Silky-soft luxury that saves you money
The new smart metering function is particularly interesting; all consumption and flow rate data is recorded by the microprocessor controls and can be read via a USB interface. In addition to the consumption data (maximum flow rate over the previous 24 hours, average of maximum flow rate), salt consumption and the total number of regenerations, users can generate a weekly profile for each calendar week.

These intelligent functions help reduce operating costs and minimize the consumption of salt and rinsing water.
AQA perla supplies up to 12 people with soft water 24 hours a day with no supply shortfall, even at periods of peak demand. Refilling is only rarely required with the high-capacity 50kg regeneration tank. A 4-person household consumes an average of 200 cubic meters of water a year.

With a raw water hardness of 20° dH and a reduction in water hardness of 8° dH, the AQA perla consumes around 88kg of regeneration agents per annum. The regeneration tank therefore needs to be refilled no more than twice a year.

AQA life – a revolutionary, new technology
The duplex soft water system, AQA life, works with the proven AQA perla technology. The alternating operating mode enables user to specify the required capacity in column 2 while regeneration is taking place in column 1. This ensures that AQA life can deliver ‘pearl’ water round the clock while guaranteeing the highest standards of hygiene.

The integrated, ‘soft control’ electronic controller makes using and operating the AQA life extremely easy. Its innovative precision salination and short, economical regeneration cycles reduce consumption of salt and rinsing water.
AQA life supplies up to 12 people with soft water 24 hours a day. As the 25kg capacity tank containing the regeneration agents is only half the size of the AQA perla system, the AQA life takes up even less space.

The special feature of the AQA smart is that it is actually three softeners in one. Three different capacity settings (9, 13 and 18 m³ x °dH) are available via the controller. AQA smart is therefore suitable for water requirements where there are genuine water hardness problems.

Efficiency and technology are the top priorities
Using AQA smart, relatively larger regeneration capacities consume less of the regeneration agents and significantly minimize the amount of regeneration water used. AQA smart is managed via a simple, logical-to-use, electronic control unit. Its intelligent volume-sensitive, variable regeneration is an exceptional piece of technology. On start-up, the available supply of soft water is programmed in (depending on the hardness of the raw water).

A precision flow rate meter (‘brine meter’) can allocate the exact, small amount of brine needed for partial regeneration. You can set the time (e.g. 2am) when check is run to ascertain if the remaining soft water supply is still sufficient for the next day. If not, then – without disposing of the remaining soft water – the softening column regenerates up to 100% of the soft water supply.

Variable regeneration reduces consumption of the regeneration agents and flushing water to the prescribed technical minimum, making significant cuts in operating costs.

AQA smart’s regeneration tank holds 15kg. A 4-person household consumes an average of 200 cubic metres of water a year. BWT Rondomat Duo S – Drinking water softener with a process that can be adjusted to consumption rates
Depending on the actual consumption of the operator, water softening systems often have to be shut down for too long, which should be avoided for reasons of hygiene.

The problem: excessive volumes of resin must be maintained in the system (capacity) to manage short-term peak flows that can lead to sanitation problems during consumption times with low water extraction (weekends, holiday periods, etc.)

The time priority switch triggers regeneration, which increases the salt and rinsing water consumption while having to satisfy all the demands of a duplex softening system.

The new Rondomat Duo S uses its adaptable process (that can adjust to consumption rates) to satisfy these demands using different-sized softener columns − a base load and peak load column. The core of this technology is the ‘smart meter’ (intelligent water meter) and the new Soft Control T (touch panel controls).

They enable automated flow-rate controlled switching to the differential pressure-optimised softener columns and ‘intelligent’ precision salination for consumption-based salt and rinsing water (operational efficiency). The operator can also activate the ‘Hyg Function’ to minimise stagnation periods. The flushing process is triggered after an adjustable, maximum permissible stagnation time.

An Aqua Watch function can also be activated, which triggers an alarm when the water flow rate falls below 60 l/h within a 10-minute period. BWT dosing pumps for flow-proportional additional dosing (e.g. protection against corrosion) and a hygiene set (a dosing pump to top up the chlorine dioxide during brine intake) can be connected directly to the electronic control system.

The feature here is the simple electrical connection using colour-coded connectors instead of a complicated array of screw terminals. The Rondomat Duo S is of course equipped with automatic blending, an energy-efficient electronic transformer and it can be connected to any building control system.

All the operating data is displayed on a clear graphic touch panel and can be read via a USB interface. The flow rate data for the previous 24 hours can also be displayed as a graph.

This compact soft water system is designed for treating air-conditioning water in a building of 3-10 units – i.e. where clean, safe drinking water is required. The Rondomat Duo 1 therefore completes the Duo series product line.


The Rondomat Duo method – safe and reliable
The Rondomat Duo works simply and logically: smaller-sized facilities create higher flow capacities. The Rondomat Duo models ensure maximum use of the exchange resin, reduced salt release times and the resulting, significantly shorter regeneration intervals.


Operating principle
Rondomat Duo water softeners work on the ion exchange principle. A sensitive electronic controller with an integrated soft water output water meter regulates the system’s work flow. On start-up, the water hardness level, date and time are recorded, and regeneration of the softener column is automatically triggered if the soft water supply runs dry.

At the same time, the membrane valve in the hard water outlet of the active resin pressure cylinder closes as the other one opens. While the first resin pressure cylinder is operating, the second is regenerated, which ensures a constant supply of soft water. The alternating operating mode results in significantly reduced water stagnation times.


Softening and regeneration
All the hard water flows top-down through the exchange resin in the resin pressure cylinder, which is charged with sodium ions. The calcifiers, i.e. calcium and magnesium, are removed and replaced with water-soluble sodium.

If the absorption capacity of the exchange resin is exhausted, regeneration is triggered automatically and ‘recharges’ it with sodium ions (reactivating the resin bed). The alternating operating mode results in significantly reduced water stagnation times.



Performance over cost
Previously, a system capacity of 400 to 500 m³ x °dH was required to achieve a flow rate of around 6 m³/h in commercial or industrial premises to reach the required soft water quality of 0.1° dH. However, this flow rate can now be achieved by the third largest of the Rondomat Duos, Type 6, which has a capacity of 250m³ °dH. As a Rondomat Duo is always one size smaller in all performance categories, it also costs one size smaller.

BWT’s HVD range of water softeners is used for the softening or partial softening of untreated industrial and process water. Water pipe installations and the water conduit system components connected to them are reliably protected against malfunction and damage caused by lime scale.

Highly efficient technology for increased productivity
Volume-controlled HVD softeners are designed to operate reliably, safely and economically. Volume-controlled systems use the entire capacity before triggering automatic regeneration and the switch between softening columns. The systems also supply soft water during the regeneration process, thereby ensuring continuous operation.

The HVD systems operate using a counter flow process, whereby the flow of water through the resin columns is from the bottom to the top, while regeneration takes place in the opposite direction. This results in very low salt and water consumption. The tanks, the salt container and the installation structure can be positioned as required.

The systems are controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC), and the operating parameters can be changed at any time. An integrated screen makes it easy to monitor operational data.

The rinsing water is controlled by an integrated conductivity meter, which reduces the volume of rinsing water by 25-35%. The meter controls the rinsing water and automatically stops regeneration when the ion exchange resin has been cleaned.
